Gamescom, which is held annually in Cologne, Germany, is one of the world's largest and most important gaming events. Since 2009, it has become a key platform for game developers, publishers, and enthusiasts to showcase the latest in video games, hardware, and technology.

This year, from August 21 to 25, Gamescom will feature business sessions, public exhibitions, and gaming tournaments. More than just a trade fair, Gamescom celebrates gaming culture, attracting hundreds of thousands of visitors annually.

As a proud participant in the Australian stand hosted by IGEA, we’re excited to give an exclusive preview of Crab God’s next major update. Being part of the Australian stand allows us to connect with publishers, investors, and fellow developers while celebrating Australia's creativity and innovation.

What’s new in Crab God?

We’re so glad you asked! We will announce the next major update at the event, so visit our booth. But first, let’s look at all the improvements we have made over the past two months.

We’ve been working double-time behind the scenes to bring new and exciting content to our loyal guardians. (Our Discord and Steam communities have shaped all of these updates and have been so helpful with feedback and communications!)

The first major update we introduced was Tide Trials, gameplay modifiers that add extra challenge or novelty to a migration. After completing your first migration, they can be activated on your next run. There are currently 6 new trials:

  • Permanent Roles Trial: Once a Crabling’s role is selected, it cannot be changed. Adapt or perish!
  • Fast Trial: Everything is faster - movement, attacks, favour generation, and food drops.
  • Deadly Trial: Crablings' health is halved, while threats become twice as tough.
  • Chaos Trial: Traits and blessings are random. Embrace the unpredictability!
  • No Eggs Trial: No new Crabling eggs. You start with just 4 Crablings. Role swapping is free.
  • Timed Trial: Complete each level in a set number of days or face automatic migration and tough sacrifices.

The next big update was the much-anticipated Crabling Customizations! Our online community voted and asked for a way to make their crablings more adorable, and we answered. From hats to pets, crabling customisations have since been a major hit with the community. We’ve included over 40 customisable options, with some being role-specific!

We can’t wait for the Gamescom community to come by our booth and have loads of crabling fun with our new updates!

What else will we be doing at Gamescom?

Our co-founder, Nico, will attend the event and is looking for potential connections and clients. We are a full-service work-for-hire studio looking for exciting new projects! He is available to chat on Meet-to-Match

Chaos Theory coming to Gamescom will be more than just a visit to exhibit our work; it's an opportunity to share our passion, build valuable relationships, and put our studio on the map in the global gaming community.

We're excited to be here, representing our team and the vibrant and diverse gaming talent Australia is known for.
